like its when your reading something and it skips a page or 2
It is simply starting in medias res, it will likely explain everything, including who that is and how they got there in a few pages. It is a rather common literary tool.
New chapter, new setting, we can assume some time has passed and this is another member of the pack doing this part of his ‘training’, I think she mentioned him before.
